HOW THESE 24 COUNTY
WINNERS WERE JUDGED:

These entries have been evaluated by a panel of judges. The judges have selected these 20 county winners and the three statewide winners. Judging was based on the following criteria:

Drawings: Portrayal of Theme (30%), Originality and Creativity (30%) and Artistic Design/Attractiveness (40%).

Poems and Essays: Portrayal of Theme (30%), Originality and Creativity (30%), Organization and Presentation (20%) and Grammar/ Spelling/Punctuation (20%).

Judges: The panel of judges included
Marilyn Alverio from Ethnic Marketing Solutions; Jenny Boom Boom from Hot 93.7, WZMX-FM; Susan Cormier from the Connecticut State Library Association; Herb Emanuelson from Adams & Knight; Andrea Jackson Brooks from the Office of the Comptroller; Lisa Monroe from the State of Connecticut; Frances Morales from Telemundo; Bettye Jo Pakulis from Office of the Treasurer; and Kathleen Tunson from TIAA-CREF.

WHAT OUR WINNERS
WERE AWARDED:

The parents or legal guardians of the county winners each receive $250 checks—winners from each of Connecticut's eight counties. A winning poem [Grade 6], essay [Grades 4-5] and drawing [Grades K-3] were selected from each county, if entered. The parents or legal guardians of the three (3) statewide winners also each received $500 checks, and the teacher or principal of the three statewide winners each received $150 checks for a classroom celebration. These prizes will be presented during an awards ceremony at Goodwin College in East Hartford on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 4 to 6 p.m.
